Media release July 6, 2007 Entries open to unique national film competition with $15,000 first prize
Entry forms to a unique new Australian film competition have been distributed nationwide to encourage budding filmmakers and creative minds to create a a quirky television advert suitable for national screening, with the winner receiving a hefty first prize of $15,000 cash. Since the OzKleen Television Advert Challenge was recently announced, film and advertising students and industry bodies from all over Australia have registered their interest for the official entry forms, with lecturers at universities seeing the potential for using the Challenge as a real-life client scenario in class. The competition is a unique one: filmmakers, advertisers and creative minds are invited to create an advert for OzKleen featuring one or more of its products, such as the popular Shower Power cleaning product, and bring the company's brand – quality, dynamic, professional and quirky – to life. OzKleen, a 100 per cent Australian owned and operated household cleaning products company, will award the winning entrant $15,000 cash and air their advert on national television as part of its next advertising campaign.
OzKleen Managing Director Tom Quinn said he wanted to put the unique challenge to the community to see what kind of adverts could be masterminded using the OzKleen brand and products. “Rather than following the well trodden path of using advertising companies to create adverts, we wanted to put the challenge to the community to bring our products to life and encourage an emotional connection,” Mr Quinn said. “We see the Challenge as an exciting and unique way of encouraging creative minds to put their skills in script writing, casting, filming, and editing an advert to the test, with the best entrant winning the $15,000 cash prize, providing a great launch pad for a career in film or advertising. “We've run the same competition in the United Kingdom, with two universities incorporating the competition into their film study curriculum.” While students are particuarly excited by the Challenge, the competition is open to all creative minds, although established film and advertising companies are asked to step aside in the interest of providing opportunities for emerging filmmakers and advertisers. The entry deadline is 30 October 2007, providing entrants with plenty of time to fine tune their advert and even seek feedback from OzKleen during their “work in progress”. The adverts can focus on one or more of OzKleen’s range and must include: 1) OzKleen’s unique selling point statement – “SHOCK! [featured OzKleen product] actually work!” 2) Product visuals and brand (where possible cross-promotion of other OzKleen products). Adverts must abide by national advertising guidelines and should be in quality, finished Mini-DV format, containing both a 15 and 30 second version suitable for TV screening. Once received, OzKleen will own full copyright of submitted adverts.
